International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics (IJGO) – the official journal of FIGO – is a peer-reviewed scientific journal publishing articles on all aspects of obstetrics, gynecology, and related subjects, with emphasis on matters of worldwide interest.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of serving as Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor, Associate Editor or senior Editorial Board member of a reputable medical journal specialising in women’s health.

The duties of the Deputy Editor-in-Chief will include:

  • Assigning articles to Associate Editors for peer review

  • Acting as Handling Editor for a small number of assigned papers each week

  • Maintaining a steady flow of accepted papers for publication

  • Inviting authoritative, topical research and review articles

  • Consulting with the EIC on strategic development of IJGO

  • Adherence to generally accepted publication ethics and best practices; consulting on integrity

matters when requested

  • Acting as a global ambassador for the journal.

A modest honorarium will be provided by FIGO in line with the above responsibilities.

Candidates should submit a CV together with a cover letter summarizing the following:

  • Evaluation of the current standing of IJGO, and vision for the future of the journal

  • Internationally recognized standing in obstetrics and gynecology, and broad knowledge of the field

  • Experience in editorial decision-making, and with online peer review sites

  • Other relevant experience and strengths.

Expressions of interest should be sent by 10 June 2024 by email to ijgo@figo.org. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview via Microsoft Teams in July 2024.
